1. Moto G4 Plus:

One of the most awaited phones of the year – the new 2016 Moto G, which is called as the Moto G4 Plus is now launched. Those familiar with the Moto G phones know how popular these phones have been and those who are not aware of all this should know that the Moto G4 Plus is the 4th edition in the Moto G series and all the previous 3 generation phones have been extremely successful in India. Back in 2014, the Moto G was first launched in India, since then it has been the most selling phone in Indian e-commerce, it helped in spreading e-commerce in India by starting the ‘online exclusive’ and ‘flash sales’ trend. So, it has a great legacy to carry, now… Expand Review

let’s talk about the phone. Starting with the design, the Moto G4 Plus comes with a polycarbonate body and everything is plastic here, the back has a leather like finish which feels good and the build quality is excellent. I won’t say the phone looks good, specially when you have many of the full metal unibody phones at the same or lower price but, it has good grip and feels comfortable to hold in hands. It sports a big 5.5 inches Full HD screen with very good display quality although, the screen is a fingerprint magnet. If we talk about the performance, it runs on the 1.5 GHz Snapdragon 617 Octa-core processor coupled with 2/3 GB RAM and Adreno 405 GPU, it can handle heavy usage and gaming but it heats up a little and also there are much better phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 which deliver great performance, so the Moto G4 Plus is not recommended for heavy users. When it comes to the camera department, the Moto G4 Plus stands taller from the crowd. It features a 16 MP rear camera with Laser auto-focus, PDAF, ƒ/2.0 aperture, dual LED flash and the Professional Mode, the camera is really amazing, it has good colors, sharpness and performs very well even at low light conditions, it is by far one of the best camera you can get at this price. The 5 MP front camera with ƒ/2.2 aperture is also one of the best or probably the best at this price. As always the case for Moto phones, the Moto G4 Plus runs on the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Stock Android UI, although Moto has added few helpful features like the Moto Display. And the phone will always get the latest Android updates for years. For the first time, the company has added a fingerprint scanner in its phone and it works well, it is placed below the screen. It is a dual sim phone with 4G support. It comes in 16 GB and 32 GB storage options and is expandable upto 128 GB with a dedicated microSD slot. The phone is backed by a Non-removable 3000 mAh Li-Ion battery which gives decent battery life, it can last for a day with medium to heavy usage. It supports fast charging via Moto’s Turbo charger, it is very good.

Alternatives: Motorola has also launched the Moto G4 in India at Rs. 12,499 but, you should ignore it and go with the Moto G4 Plus only. The Moto X Play (16 GB) is also available at Rs. 15,499.

Overall, when you talk about a Moto G phone, it is always about the user experience and the stability between hardware and software, and the Moto G4 Plus again achieves that, it runs smoothly. So, with latest software, great cameras, good performance and all the required features, it can be a great choice with closed eyes. And as a complete package, it is the best phone under 15000 Rs. in India at present however, heavy gamers should go for the even more powerful Redmi Note 3.

2. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (4GB RAM):

Xiaomi has launched the new Redmi Note 4 which is the successor to its massively popular Redmi Note 3 which is the no. 1 best selling online smartphone in India so, the Redmi Note 4 has very big shoes to fill in, let’s see what all it has got. Starting with the design, it is built on a similar design language like the Redmi Note 3 with few differences like a 2.5D curved glass on front and a better back. The excellent build quality is one of the best at its price, it also feels nice and premium in hands… Expand Review

The Redmi Note 4 comes with a 5.5 inches Full HD screen with good display quality. Sadly, it misses out on Gorilla Glass screen protection. It runs on the 2.0 GHz Octa Core Snapdragon 625 Processor and comes in 2/3/4 GB RAM variants with Adreno 506 GPU. It obviously doesn’t deliver performance like the Snapdragon 650 on the Redmi Note 3 but it is still pretty much capable of handling everything smoothly, it also handles games well without much heating. On the camera front, it packs a 13 MP rear camera which is a better shooter than the 16 MP rear camera of the Redmi Note 3, it has good picture quality with good colors and details. The 5 MP front camera is also good, it comes with various beautification modes which enhance the selfies. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Xiaomi’s MIUI 8.0 running on top, the company has promised the Nougat update in the coming few weeks. The MIUI 8.0 is a beautiful ROM with lots of customisations, it also offers lots of useful features like Dual Apps (two accounts of apps like Whatsapp, Facebook, etc.), Second Space (creates a new partition in the phone which is protected with password/fingerprint and can be used to install completely different sets of apps and also has a separate gallery, basically first space and second space behave like two different phones), although many manufacturers provide features like second space but in Xiaomi’s MIUI it is perfectly executed, it’s fast and easy to access, the MIUI also offers quick ball. In our opinion, among all the ROMs from different Android manufacturers the MIUI is the most feature rich and by far the best ROM out there, it adds a lot of value to the phone. The phone packs a good fingerprint scanner and also includes Infrared Blaster which allows you to control your TV, AC, music system and many other electronic appliances, it is a very good feature and comes handy. It is a dual sim phone with 4G and VoLTE support. It packs 64 GB of internal storage which is expandable upto 128 GB via a hybrid slot. Coming to another good thing about the phone, it is backed by a 4100 mAh battery which delivers excellent battery backup. Disappointingly, the Redmi Note 4 misses out on fast charging which few other competitors offer at this price, it is not a deal breaker but it would have made things sweeter.

Alternatives: The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is still available and can still be a good choice. Under Rs. 15,000, Xiaomi has also launched an excellent smartphone Mi Max with a huge 6.44 inches screen although, it won’t be the right choice for most of the users but those who have fallen in love with the phone’s bigger screen and its advantages and are ready to sacrifice a bit of comfort in handling the phone will absolutely love it, it is almost perfect for its intended user type.

Overall, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is a great budget smartphone. It has almost perfect balance of everything, be it design, performance, camera, software or battery life it delivers a very satisfactory experience. So, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with its great user experience is one of the best phones under 15000 Rs. in India.

3. Lenovo Z2 Plus (32 GB):

Lenovo has recently launched the Lenovo Z2 Plus in India, however, it is actually the Lenovo Zuk Z2 that was launched in China a little earlier. They have just ditched the Zuk branding here in India and launched the phone with only Lenovo branding. Starting with the build and design of the phone, it comes with a fibre-glass frame unlike metal used in most high-end phones these day. The company says that, using the fibre-glass frame helps in reducing the weight and rightly so, despite having a 3500 mAh battery, it weighs at 149 grams only. The front and back of the phone are… Expand Review

covered with 2.5D curved glass. The phone comes in white and black colors, it looks good and feels premium. It comes with a compact 5 inches screen with Full HD display which has good quality. The Z2 Plus is powered by a 2.15 GHz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with Adreno 530 GPU and as expected the performance is absolutely excellent, it plays heaviest of the games smoothly but heats up a bit during heavy gaming although it is acceptable. It comes in two variants, one with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage and other with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage, however the phone doesn’t support expandable storage and doesn’t include the microSD slot. It runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with ZUI 2.0 running on top. The ZUI comes with stock Android like UI with Google Now launcher, however there are many tweaks and added features in the UI. The most interesting and unique thing in the phone is the physical home button below the screen, which Lenovo calls as U-Touch 2.0. The U-Touch 2.0, firstly acts as a fingerprint scanner but, it also acknowledges a touch, a press, double press and end to end swipe. You can customise this button and select which actions should be performed for double press, long press, long touch and left to right swipe, like a touch can be used for back, a press to open home screen, double press can open camera, long touch for recent apps, long press for Google Now and changing apps by swiping left to right on the button. The concept of this button is a real good idea and improves user experience, however, it will take some time to learn it but at the same time, the company is also allowing on-screen navigation buttons. The Z2 Plus packs a 13 MP rear camera with 4K video recording support, it has decent picture quality, it’s not the best but it is not bad also. However, the 8 MP front camera is very good. It also includes various health related sensors and a U-Health app, which tracks your steps, walking, running, etc. It is a dual sim phone with 4G and VoLTE support. It features a USB Type-C v2.0 port for fast charging and data syncing. It is backed by a non-removable Li-Po 3500 mAh battery which delivers very good battery life. It also comes with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging support.

Alternatives: The old Zuk Z1 is still also available under Rs. 15,000 but is not worth going for.

Overall, the Lenovo Z2 Plus is a compact, well designed and a very balanced smartphone. Innovative feature like the U-Touch home button is a nice addition. At the same time, it is a performance powerhouse and is the cheapest phone in India to come with the powerful Snapdragon 820 processor. It ticks almost all the boxes right and is one of the best phones under 15000 Rs. in India if you require high performance or a little compact 5-inches phone.

4. LeEco Le 2

LeEco is speedily extending its hold in the Indian smartphone market, be it in the hardware department or the entertainment packages, they offer a lot. The LeEco Le 2 is the successor to its popular LeEco Le 1s. Design wise, there are not many changes in the Le 2 from its predecessor. It packs a premium full metal body which is very well-built. The rear camera housing on the back looks beautiful and adds a good look to the phone. It has a 5.5 inches Full HD display which has very good quality. The phone is powered… Expand Review

by the new Snapdragon 652 Octa Core processor paired with 3 GB of RAM and delivers great performance, which is even a little better than the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. You can play heaviest of the games without lagging and severe heating issues. The Le 2 features a 16 MP rear camera which has good sharpness, depth and an overall excellent picture quality. The 8 MP front camera is also very good. But the USP of the phone is, it is the first phone to ditch the traditional 3.5 mm headphone jack and use the new CDLA (Continual Digital Lossless Audio) technology using the Type-C USB port, which ensure high quality audio through the headphones. Thankfully, the company provides a Type-C USB to 3.5 mm jack adapter which will prove very handy when you don’t have the Type-C headphones and want to use the most popular 3.5 mm jack headphones. The phone runs on latest Android Marshmallow with company’s EUI running on top, the EUI is beautiful, stable and well optimized. The fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate. It is a dual sim phone with 4G support on both the slots. The Le 2 comes with 32 GB internal storage space, but sadly it doesn’t have a microSD slot so, those who love to plug-in and out the microSD card frequently will be disappointed. The phone is backed by a non-removable 3000 mAh battery which comes with fast charging capability and charges the phone quickly. The battery life is decent. And, not to forget the company’s Supertainment package which includes subscription from many popular Indian media providers, media lovers will love this. If we talk about the downsides, the lack of microSD slot can be a disappointment for some, while the missing 3.5 mm headphone jack can be seen in both ways, early adopters will like it while, traditional users will find it a little annoying at stages. Also, beware that you won’t be able to charge the phone and use the headphones simultaneously as, there is only one port for both the jobs.

Overall, the LeEco Le 2 is a complete smartphone, be it design, performance, multimedia or the camera, it is pretty good in almost every department. It directly competes with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and beats it in many departments. It is a great value for money phone under 15000 Rs. but, before you get too excited make sure you can live without the 3.5 mm headphone jack!

5. Huawei Honor 6X:

Huawei after a very long time has launched a balanced budget smartphone, the Honor 6X, which has all the potential to sell well in the Indian market. It packs a metal unibody design with small plastic parts at the top and bottom on the back. The phone looks good and has good build quality, the 2.5D curved glass on the front also adds to the visual appeal and comfort. It has a thickness of 8.2mm and weighs 162 grams. It sports a 5.5 inches Full HD screen with good display quality and accurate colors. The Honor 6X is powered… Expand Review

by Huawei’s own Octa Core HiSilicon Kirin 655 processor clocked at 2.1 GHz, it is paired with Mali-T830MP2 GPU and comes in 3 GB and 4 GB RAM variants. The performance is good, it runs smoothly for normal usage and browsing and also handles games well, however for graphic intensive games it may lag a little at times. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Huawei’s Emotion 4.1 UI, it is decent but has to be improved more. The Honor 6X’s biggest highlight is in the camera department. It comes with dual rear camera setup having a 12 MP primary camera and a 2 MP camera which captures depth. The picture quality is excellent and it produces nice bokeh effect (blurred background) like DSLR cameras as well. The camera app also offers lots of features, a Pro mode and also allows to change the focus of image after it is taken. Even the 8 MP front camera has very good quality. Overall, in the camera department, the Honor 6X challenges Moto G4 Plus and offers one of the best picture quality at its price. It packs a very fast fingerprint scanner which can also be used to take selfies, browse photos, answering calls, etc. It is a Dual sim smartphone with 4G and VoLTE support. It comes in two storage variants – 32 GB and 64 GB and can be further expanded up to 128 GB via a hybrid slot. Another good thing about the phone is the non-removable 3340 mAh battery which delivers very good battery backup and also comes with fast charging support.

Alternatives: The old Huawei Honor 5X is also available around the same price but, it’s not a good choice anymore.

Overall, the Huawei Honor 6X is a very good smartphone, it offers excellent cameras, good design and performance. However, when you see it as a complete package it still fails to beat the Moto G4 Plus or the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. Also, when it comes to the pricing, considering the fierce competition it should have costed Rs. 2,000 less for both the variants, that said it still is a very good phone and can be purchased for its excellent camera offering.
