1. Xiaomi Mi 5:

After all the wait Xiaomi has finally launched its new flagship Xiaomi Mi 5 and as expected from the company, it’s yet another master piece. Starting with the design, the phone looks very beautiful, it has a metallic frame and 3D glass on the rear which is curved towards the edges, which gives a good grip and feel. The phone looks great from all the angles and feels premium, one can notice the attention to details. It packs a 5.15 inches Full HD screen with 428 ppi pixel density which has amazing display quality, while the… Expand Review

Corning Gorilla Glass 4 covers both the front and rear glasses. If we talk about the performance, it is the first phone in India to come with Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon 820 processor, which is also currently one of the best processors in the world so, it goes without saying that you don’t need to worry about playing the heaviest of the games or doing heavy multitasking but, it also heats a little. It is paired with 3GB of RAM (Xiaomi Mi 5 also has a 4GB RAM variant but it is not launched in India) and Adreno 530 GPU. Moving on to another department where the Mi 5 excels, the camera, it comes with a 16 MP rear camera with Sony’s latest IMX298 sensor with PDAF, 4-axis OIS, f/2.0 aperture, dual-LED flash, Slow-mo videos @ 120 fps and 4K video recording, it also includes Sapphire glass cover for lens protection. On the front, it has a 4 MP camera with 2 micron pixel and f/2.0 aperture for selfie lovers. Beyond the specs, the picture quality of both the cameras is really very impressive, even the low-light photography on the Mi 5 is very good. The phone runs on Android v6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 7. The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with 32 GB internal storage (64 GB & 128 GB variants not launched in India) powered by UFS 2.0 which is faster than previous technologies but, it misses out on microSD card slot. It is dual sim phone with support for Indian 4G bands and VoLTE. It comes with fingerprint scanner integrated into the physical home button on the front, apart from locking the screen it also allows to lock apps and hide folders. It also comes with Type-C USB port, NFC and IR Blaster. The phone is backed by a 3,000 mAh battery with Quick charge 3.0 fast charging support. Despite a big battery and metal, glass body the phone weighs just 129 grams.

Overall, the Mi 5 is truly a great flagship phone, while the 4 GB RAM variant is even better, the 3 GB RAM variant isn’t a bad choice either and it still stands ahead of the competition as a complete package and is currently the best phone under 25000 Rs. in India.

2. Moto Z Play:

Motorola has launched its most awaited Moto Z series which comes with the Moto mods in India. The Moto Z Play is the cheaper sibling in the Moto Z series and is launched at Rs. 24,999. Starting with the design, it packs a slick metal and glass body which is premium and looks very beautiful and has a thickness of just 6.99 mm. The big circle on the back houses the camera, flash and the Moto branding and looks classy. good viewing angles. The Moto Z play runs on the 2 GHz Octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 3 GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU. The Snapdragon 625 is a mid budget processor and is not expected at this price where most of the competitors are offering a Snapdragon 8xx series processor. The performance of the Moto Z Play is good however, there will be no problem in day-to-day usage, browsing, multitasking, and even heavy gaming also. Coming to the software part, the Moto Z Play runs on the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with almost Stock Android UI with some useful added functionalities. The Moto Z Play sports a 16 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, Laser autofocus and Dual-LED flash and is a very good performer in both good and bad lighting conditions. It supports 4K video recording, however it lacks OIS. The 5 MP front camera comes with f/2.2 aperture and an LED flash as well, it also clicks good selfies. The phone packs a fingerprint scanner below the screen, it is fast and accurate however, the button only acts as a fingerprint scanner and doesn’t work as the home button. The highlight of the phone is the support for the Moto Mods, to explain in details, Moto Mods are the swappable back covers which attach to the phone via strong magnets and can be interchanged very easily. There are 5 Moto Mods currently, the Insta-Share Projector Mod which converts your phone into a mini projector and can prove very handy for small presentations and meetings, the JBL SoundBoost Mod which adds loud rich quality stereo sound to your phone, it also comes with kickstand so pull it and there is no need to carry any other portable speaker for music, the Hasselblad True Zoom Mod, which converts your phone into a true digital camera with 10x optical zoom, xenon flash, physical shutter and zoom buttons and grip like standard cameras, the Incipio offGRID™ Power Pack Mod which is a powerbank mod and adds extra battery life to the phone and lastly, the Moto Style Shells which give different styles and looks to the phone. The Moto Mods are obviously great additions but they are very costly. The phone comes with Water repellent nano coating and includes USB Type-C port. A great thing about the phone is the big 3510 mAh battery which supports Turbo Charging and provides a very good battery backup. Despite the big battery the phone has just 6.99 mm thickness.

Overall, the Moto Z Play is a great beautiful smartphone, it is not the most powerful smartphone at its price but everything is very good and balanced in the phone and if you plan to purchase the Moto Mods also, it is the most different phone and will provide an unmatched experience. Even without the Moto Mods, the Moto Z Play, if you are not a very heavy gamer can be a great choice under 25000 Rs.

3. HTC Desire 10 Pro:

HTC, in an attempt to regain its lost grounds has launched its Desire 10 Pro in the mid budget segment in India. It comes in a beautiful design with metallic body, having a soft rubberised back which feels very good in hands. It comes in black and white colors and both the color variants have a golden lining running through the edges, antennas and camera circle which adds a charm to the design. The HTC Desire 10 Pro sports a 5.5 inches Full HD display and has very good quality. It runs on the 1.8 GHz Octa Core Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 processor… Expand Review

at this price much better processors are expected, at least the Snapdragon 625 could have been used. It comes coupled with 4 GB RAM and the performance is good enough for daily usage and moderate to heavy gaming. The phone packs a 20 MP ƒ/2.2 aperture rear camera which is an excellent shooter, the pictures in low lighting conditions also come out good. It also comes with Laser Autofocus for quick focusing. The 13 MP ƒ/2.2 aperture clicks great selfies as well, it is assisted with display flash for low light selfies. The camera app also includes lots of modes, one amongst them is the selfie panorama mode which comes out quite handy. It also comes with a full pro mode. The phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based HTC Sense UI which is fast, beautiful, customisable and light weight. It is a dual sim phone with 4G and VoLTE support. It packs 64 GB of internal storage which is expandable upto 2 TB via a microSD card. However, it has a hybrid slot, which means you can either use the two sim or one sim and a microSD card at a time. The phone comes with a fast fingerprint scanner situated on the back, which can also be used to protect apps apart from unlocking the phone. The HTC Desire 10 Pro comes with HTC’s BoomSound technology and delivers excellent audio quality via headphones. It also includes NFC for additional communication. The phone is powered by a 3000 mAh battery which delivers good battery backup and supports fast charging.

Overall, the HTC Desire 10 Pro is a good balanced smartphone. It comes with excellent cameras, very good design and good all round features. However, it is not a performance powerhouse and is overpriced, the competition offers a lot more here.

4. Micromax Dual 5:

Micromax, after a very long gap has launched its new phone in the mid-budget segment. It is an ambitious rather bold move from the Indian manufacturer to compete with the hot selling Chinese manufacturers and some top international manufacturers in this price segment. Let’s see what all it has got. The first thing one must know about the Dual 5 is that it is a re-branded Qiku 360 Q5 which is launched by Qiku in China last year. The phone has exact same design and shares many common features with the Qiku 360 Q5 including the Dual cameras and the security chip which are most highlighted…Expand Review

(read the launch article) by the company. Also, the company has repeatedly said that the buyers can feel proud of holding an excellent ‘Indian’ phone, which feels annoying now as they are selling a completely Chinese phone with only few changes and their branding. More important to know is that the Dual 5 is priced much higher in India when compared to the Qiku 360 Q5 in China. So, on a disappointing note, let’s move ahead with the Dual 5. It comes with a metal unibody design which has excellent build quality. However, it looks similar to most budget smartphones and has nothing new or unique. It sports a 5.5 inches Full HD AMOLED display which has good quality. It runs on the 1.8 GHz Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor which delivers very good performance and handles heavy games pretty well also but, considering the price point and competition, it should have offered atleast the Snapdragon 820. It comes coupled with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. The biggest highlight of the phone are its dual 13 MP rear cameras with Sony IMX 258 sensors, both having a f/1.8 aperture lens. Out of the two, one is a monochrome (black & white) sensor while the other is RGB (color) sensor, when you click a picture, both the sensors work together and produce a combined image which has lots of details and good colors. The dual camera setup also allows for lots of effects like bokeh effect, and shifting of focus points after an image is shot. The picture quality of the rear cameras is good. It also packs a 13 MP front camera with the Sony IMX258 sensor, f/2.0 aperture lens and soft flash, the picture quality is also good here. The camera app also comes with lots of modes for the rear as well as front cameras. The phone comes with a dedicated chip for storing fingerprints and other sensitive data, it also comes with theft proof feature which automatically locks the phone and self destructs all the data in case someone tries to pull out the sim-card without authentication or tries to hack the phone. On the software front, the phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is a big let down at this price. The UI is again Qiku’s 360 OS with some cosmetic changes from Micromax. It supports Dual Profiles and lets you create two separate partitions in the phone. The phone also has a dedicated physical button called ‘Smart Key’ which can be assigned different functions like clicking pictures, torch, cleaning RAM and more. It is a dual sim phone with 4G and dual sim support. It comes with huge 128 GB internal storage which is expandable upto another 128 GB via microSD card through a hybrid slot. The Dual 5 also includes an IR blaster and USB Type-C port. It is backed by a non-removable Li-Ion 3200 mAh battery which provides decent battery backup and supports pretty quick fast charging.

Overall, the Micromax Dual 5 is a good phone in itself, it packs good cameras and nice overall features with focus on security. However, even if we ignore that it is a re-branded phone, it is very difficult to digest its price. It is highly overpriced phone which certainly fails to deliver the amazing user experiences its competitors offer. So, despite being a good smartphone it is not a very good buy at this price atleast.

5. Oppo F1 Plus:

Oppo has recently launched its new flagship phone, the Oppo F1 Plus in India which, the company is touting as ‘Selfie Expert’. The USP of the phone is its 16 MP front camera which comes with a f/2.0 aperture lens. It can click some really amazing selfies with great depth both in normal and low light conditions, however low light selfies would have been the best if it also included a front flash but to compensate, it turns the screen white and uses ‘Screen Flash’ which does the job to some extent. The Oppo F1 Plus also allows to take Selfie Panorama… Expand Review

and comes with ‘Beautify 4.0’ which makes your selfies even more beautiful. On a rare occasion, it packs a smaller than the front, 13 MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash, it also captures good quality images. Talking about the design, the Oppo F1 Plus looks inspired from the iPhone 6s to a great extent, whether you like this fact or not, it looks beautiful and feels very premium with its metallic unibody design and it has just 6.6 mm of thickness. The Oppo F1 Plus looks inspired from the iPhones from the inside as well, the Android 5.1 lollipop based Color OS 3.0 on which the phone runs has very similar icons and UI like the iPhones, again, it isn’t bad and looks beautiful. The phone packs a 5.5 inches Full HD AMOLED display protected with Gorilla Glass 4. It is powered by a 2 GHz Octa Core Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 Processor coupled with 4 GB RAM, it delivers good performance and handles everything well but at this price, better processors are expected and if you are a hardcore gamer, you can give this a miss. It also includes a fingerprint scanner situated on the physical home button on the front below the screen, it is fast and accurate. It is a dual sim smartphone with 4G support. It packs 64 GB of internal storage which is further expandable upto 128 GB via microSD card. The phone is backed by a non-removable Li-Po 2850 mAh battery which comes with Oppo’s own VOOC Flash Charge, fast charging technology. At the same time, the phone misses out features like NFC and IR blaster which must be present at this price.

Overall, the Oppo F1 Plus is a very good smartphone, it packs a great selfie camera, good premium design, decent performance and delivers a good complete experience and can be a good choice. However, if you love playing high-end games, there are better options at this price but, selfie lovers, this will be the best phone under 25000 Rs. for you.
