We believe that specifications of the phones just tell the half story, a great user experience matters more than great specifications. So, while preparing this list we have considered everything, the specifications, hardware, software (UI), real-world performance, user experience, brand value, after sales service and more. We see a phone as a complete package which should at the end deliver great satisfaction to the user and our rankings are based on the same principles. We consider hundreds of phones, from biggest to the smallest brands and come with our honest rankings every month.

1. Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (16GB):

After a long wait, Xiaomi has finally launched the Redmi Note 3 in India. The phone has been highly successful in China and with all the features it packs, the same success story seems to repeat in India as well. Starting with the design, the Redmi Note 3 boasts a premium metallic design and excellent build quality, it feels great and looks beautiful, while the curved edges on the back gives it a good grip as well. The phone has a 5.5 inches Full HD display with 401 ppi pixel density and has very good display quality but, it doesn’t come with Gorilla Glass screen protection. The Redmi Note 3 is powered by the newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 Processor which has 6 cores, out of which four are 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 and the rest two are 1.8 GHz Cortex-A72 CPU’s which handle the heavy usage. The Redmi Note 3 is the world’s first phone to come with Snapdragon 650 processor, which is very powerful and delivers performance better than many flagship processors, it also doesn’t heat up much as well. The phone comes in two variants, one has 16 GB storage + 2 GB RAM and the other has 32 GB storage + 3 GB RAM (priced at Rs. 11,999). It is equipped with a 16 MP rear camera which comes with PDAF and Dual-Tone LED Flash and clicks very good quality images. On the front, it has a 5 MP shooter which too is capable of clicking good quality selfies. Another highlight of the Redmi Note 3 is its fast fingerprint scanner which can unlock the phone in just 0.3 seconds, the phone also includes Infrared Blaster which allows you to control your TV, AC, music system and many other electronic appliances. The phone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with Xiaomi’s beautiful MIUI 7 running on top. It is a dual sim phone with 4G and VoLTE support, it allows storage expansion and supports microSD cards upto 128 GB but, it has hybrid slot so at a time, you can either use the second sim or the microSD card. It is backed by a big 4050 mAh battery which gives a pretty good battery life, easily lasting for a day or even more. Also, despite a big battery and metal build, the phone weighs 164 grams and has a thickness of 8.65mm so, you get all the features without the added bulkiness. Overall, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 delivers flagship like performance, a good looking premium design and packs all the excellent features at a very good price, it is really a great buy and is undoubtedly the best smartphone under 10000 Rs. in India.

2. Moto G (3rd Gen):

A great fact is that, Moto G has been the most selling product across any category on any e-commerce platform in the history of Indian e-commerce. Well, it has a glorious past but, now let’s get started with the Moto G (3rd Gen). The phone has a very simple design from the front and a very classy curvy back which has a vertical strip which houses the camera, LED flash and the Moto logo, this strip looks very beautiful and adds uniqueness in the design of the phone. The phone is very comfortable to hold in hand and offers good grip. It sports a 5 inches HD screen with 294 ppi pixel density which is decent. It is powered by Quad-core 1.4 GHz Snapdragon 410 Processor coupled with 2 GB RAM, it is definitely not for the heavy users but on a day-to-day basis it runs flawlessly and plays small to medium games efficiently. It runs on the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with stock Android UI, which also makes the performance good. Great thing is that, it will always get the future Android updates and that too faster than many flagship phones! For the last two Moto G’s, camera was the weakest point, for the 3rd Gen it’s the strongest. It packs a 13 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture lens, HDR & dual-LED flash. The 5 MP front camera comes with f/2.2 lens and a Field of view (FOV) of 72 degrees. Both the cameras are really good. An icing on the cake is, it is water-resistant for upto 30 minutes, this IPX7 certification is provided by no phone in the near price range. It has 16 GB internal & upto 32 GB expandable storage, Dual Sim, 4G, and a very good battery life with the 2470 mAh battery. Overall, it may not offer you the best specs but it is the most popular phone and gives a great user experience and satisfaction so, if you are not after heavy gaming, it can be the best buy under 10000 Rs.

3. LeEco Le 1s Eco:

LeEco has upgraded its popular smartphone LeEco Le 1s with the newer ‘Made in India’ LeEco Le 1s Eco which, brings in only few changes like it now runs on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow, supports 10 Indian regional languages and includes entertainment packages from Eros Now, YuppTV and Hungama, worth Rs. 4900 free for one year, rest everything remains the same. Starting with the design, the first thing you will notice about the smartphone is its premium metallic design which is by far the best build quality we have seen in a 10-11k phone. It has a 5.5 inches Full HD screen with 403 ppi pixel density, the display quality is very good. The screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The Le 1s Eco runs on the powerful 2.2 GHz Mediatek Helio X10 Turbo 6795T Octa Core Processor coupled with 3 GB RAM and delivers consistently good performance. It has got the PowerVR G6200 GPU which performs very well with small to medium games but with heavy games it struggles a little, although it isn’t bad. The phone has got a 13 MP rear camera with F2.0 aperture which can click very detailed pictures and is a good overall performer. On the front, it has a 5 MP shooter which also comes with F2.0 aperture and 85 degrees wide-angle lens, it also produces good selfies. The Le 1s Eco brings 3 important features which are hardly seen in a 10,000 Rs. phone, the fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C port for fast charging and the Infrared (IR) Blaster to let you control devices like music systems, T.V., A.C., etc. from your phone itself. It is a dual sim phone and supports 4G on both the sim. It has got 32 GB internal memory out of which around 25 GB is free for the user but, the phone doesn’t have the microSD slot. It has a Li-Po 3000 mAh battery. The company also promises to have already started service centres in many cities. Overall, the LeEco Le 1s Eco comes with a great design and is equally powerful and feature packed smartphone which makes a great value for money deal at this price, also, the company is also focused towards improving the user experience of its customers in the Indian market. It can be a very good choice.

4. Coolpad Note 3 Plus:

Coolpad has upgraded its popular Note 3 with the new Coolpad Note 3 Plus, the only difference which the new phone brings in, is the improvement in display resolution which is now Full HD (1920 x 1080 Pixels) instead of the HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display in the Coolpad Note 3, which is a good move from the company seeing the constantly increasing competition. Talking about the design, it has got really slim bezels around the screen and a pretty simple design with plastic body but, it has got an Aluminium frame inside which gives it a good stability. The USP of the phone is the fingerprint sensor included on the back, which makes it one of the cheapest phones with fingerprint scanner in India. You can use the fingerprint scanner to quickly unlock the device, you can also protect the installed apps on the phone with the help of built-in app “FP lock” and can use the fingerprint scanner to unlock them. It comes with a 5.5 inches screen. The phone runs on a 1.3 GHz 64-bit Mediatek MT6753 Octa-core Processor coupled with 3 GB RAM, the performance of the phone is good. The Coolpad Note 3 Plus features a 13 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 5 element lens and LED flash. It has got a 5 MP front facing camera. The picture quality of the phone’s cameras is good. It runs on Android v5.1 Lollipop with company’s COOLUI 6.0 skin running on top. It is a dual sim smartphone supporting 4G on both the sims. It has got 16 GB internal storage which is expandable upto 64 GB. The phone is backed by 3000 mAh non removable battery which delivers decent battery backup. Overall, the Coolpad Note 3 Plus comes loaded with all the excellent features at a very good price, can be another good choice under 10000 Rs.

5. Lenovo K3 Note:

It was the game changer phone when it was launched! The 10,000 Rs. segment offered phones with Octa core processor, 2 GB RAM, 5.5 inches screen with decent HD display, 2500 mAh+ batteries and all and these specs were still considered good at this price point. But Lenovo was determined to introduce great technologies at breakthrough prices, it launched the K3 Note which was the first phone to come with FHD display under 10,000 Rs, it certainly raised the bar high but, now it has got many rivals with FHD screen at the same price. Talking about the display, it is awesome with good viewing angles and offers great 401 ppi pixel density! When it comes to performance, the K3 Note runs on 64-bit Octa-core 1.7 GHz Mediatek MT6752 Processor coupled with 2 GB RAM which offers good performance and can handle most tasks smoothly, but it heats up a bit as well. If we talk about the design, the phone has good build quality but a simple design. The phone packs a 13 MP rear and 5 MP front camera and the picture quality of both the cameras is decent but not the best you will get at this price. The phone has got the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update and runs Vibe UI 3.0 which includes all the latest features of new Lenovo phones like the ‘TheatreMax’ for using with VR headsets. It is good on storage with 16 GB internal and 32 expandable memory options. The K3 Note supports dual-sim and 4G. And when it comes to another important aspect – the battery life, the K3 Note with its 2900 mAh battery offers a good battery life, which is also better than the similarly specced Yureka Plus. Overall, it is a very good powerful phone which offers a complete package but, it is now facing a tough competition from newly launched phones which have even better specs but, the K3 Note still delivers a good user experience and can be another good choice at this price. The newly launched Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus with 5 inches screen, aluminium body and almost similar specs like K3 Note can be a great choice if you are looking for a little compact phone. Also, Lenovo in Jan 16 has launched the new Lenovo A7000 Turbo which is identical to the Lenovo K3 Note in terms of design and specs and brings only two changes, 4G support on second sim and Vibe UI 2.0 but is also priced Rs. 1,000 more i.e. at Rs. 10,999 but, if you really want a worthy upgrade to this phone you should go with the Lenovo K4 Note priced at Rs. 11,999. Also watch my full review of the K3 Note below:
