5 Best Android Phones under 20000 Rs (January 2014)

by Rahul DubeyJanuary 5, 2014

It’s the beginning of the new year 2014 and what could be better than buying a new smartphone for you or your family but, buying the best is important. So here I write the latest list of 5 Best Android Phones under 20000 Rs. for the month of January. Read it and compare the phones and choose the best one for you. All the 5 phones in this list are really very good. You just need to look if you want to save few thousand because these phones are between 17000 and 21000. Sony Xperia SP is the best, its worth to spend the additional 1000 Rs. and extend your budget to 21,000 Rs.

#Buying Tip:

There are numerous sales and offers going on for new year. So, the online market is going very hot in the lowest price competition. Buying online can definitely save you some money. And no doubt Flipkart is best for Indian buyers.

1. Sony Xperia SP:

It has the most powerful 1.7 GHz Snapdragon processor in this list. But its not really under 20,000 Rs but you may have to bargain and shred an additional 1,000 Rs to get it. But believe me its worth the 21,000 Rs. Also, its the only phone among the 5 best which provides 4G. This is the best phone and you can buy it with closed eyes.

i want know which one will be better :1. samsung grand 2, moto x, htc desire, geonee elife e7 under 20000
    and second between : MI3,moto g(2nd),asus zen5

    • September 21, 2014 at 11:47 am

Hi, except Grand to all the other phones you have mentioned are above 20,000 so if you want under 20,000 Rs. Grand 2 will be best and if you can go over 20k the HTC Desire 816 will be best. Also if you can wait for around 10 days, the new Moto X will be available in India which will be a much better choice.

And for your second question, Moto G (2nd Gen) will be best.

sorry i want to say E7 mini. Yes Moto x(2nd gene) is very good ,but don’t know what will be the price.. How about Sony mobiles?.From specification some features can’t be judged, thats why i want suggestion from you, like Camera quality may be different from specification. From my previous choices which phone will give me best camera quality. Can you suggest me name of some mobile which will full fill my primary criteria: camera , speed ,looks, etc from your point of view. Another question is new companies like Geonee, xiami, intex , asus etc are believable other than trusted companies like samsung, sony, nokia etc.

      Dear Rahul
I am waiting for your reply
      please give the suggestion ASAP

      • February 7, 2014 at 1:07 am

        Hello Ritesh,

First of all sorry that i couldn’t reply you on time. And and thank you for your nice words.

Coming to your questions, if you want to buy the best phone for around 20 k den Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 will be the best. But it costs 23k. If you don’t want to spend that extra money then Sony Xperia SP will be the best in 20,000 Rs but as you can see, in specs it is a little low in camera and RAM. If these specs are very imp for you go with Xolo Q3000 otherwise Sony Xperia SP is a very good overall package. Also if you want to cut down the price by another 3k then you can choose Micromax Canvas Turbo, a great phone with a very good price. So if you want good brand go with Sony, if willing to pay some more money go with Samsung, if specs are the first priority go with Xolo and if you want the best value for money go with Micromax.

And coming to the tablet, as you have not mentioned the price range, I have tried to get the best tablet for you which fullfis all your needs in the lowest price and its the Xolo Play Tab 7.0 @ 7,999 Rs.

Thank you so much for your appreciation. Actually both the phones are good, but Sony Xperia SP will be better among the two. And the one which I want to suggest you is better than these two and its Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 but it is costlier by 3k.

hello rahul , i am in a great confusion , xolo Q 3000 or i berry nuclea N2 , i am very interested in N2, i check in the i berry web site , but they stopped pre-booking , i do not have more time to wait till N2 available in the market ( working abroad on vacation) , is their is any way to get it , otherwise my next choice is XOLO Q 300 , but i do not know the Quality of this one , please help

    • February 2, 2014 at 11:04 am

      Hi Lal,

When you compare between Xolo Q3000 & Nuclea N2, the Nuclea N2 is the clear winner. You can send an e-mail directly to iBerry, clearly stating your problem & telling them you desperately want to buy this phone & see if they respond positively. I think that’s the only option left.

But, if you are forced to go with some other phone then you have chosen the right one, the Xolo Q3000. It has good overall quality and performance.

      Hi Ganesh,

Lenovo is very good. It is the largest seller of computers throughout the world. And the same quality and experience reflects in their phones too. You can go with Lenovo IdeaPhone K900 and Lenovo Vibe X S960 between 20-25 k.

    January 28, 2014 at 4:16 pm

    Hi Rahul,

What about gionee Elife E6? My budget is 20k at max… i googled a lot & it seems to be of good quality/features/looks…but with sluggish UI. is there any better option in terms of hardware/spec/looks/performance ??

    • February 2, 2014 at 12:51 am

      Hello Jatinder,

It is a great phone. Talking about the UI, it runs on the heavily customized Android OS which focuses more on transitions and effects. It is not bad. If the perfromance is lagging, u can always reduce it by changing the settings.
And there was a better option available with iBerry Auxus Nuclea N2 with its introductory price of 19,999 Rs but, its gone now.
You can definitely buy this phone.

    Hello Rahul,

I want to buy a phone in the range of 15k to 16k….. I am currently using SE xperia neo v…. I am looking for a phone with good build quality, good screen with a good resolution(like AMOLED)… Even if the screen size is not 5 inch, i want a decent PPI and good viewing angles…… I do play games and im aware that even a dual core phone with a 1 GB ram can play most of the high end games……I am looking for a phone with a good camera… Even if the cam is a 8 MP shooter but i want the phone to capture decent pictures under low light conditions….I did a lot of research on phones from GIONEE, micromax, xolo, lenovo and huawei…..Brands like micromax and xolo have established themselves but im not sure about the other brands that i have mentioned….. The phones that i did research on are
    1) Gionee ELife E5: Has good build quality, Decent specs, Good screen quality but a really bad camera and unknown brand
2)Gionee Elife E6/E7 mini: Amazing looks and build quality but bad camera and a laggy UI(AMIGO) and there is a lot of lag in the high end games as per the reviews
    3) Lenovo S820/p780: Again bad camera
    4) Huawei Ascent G700: Heard the phone is good but im not sure about performance and camera
    5) Moto G: Probably the happiest with the performance and specs as per the reviews but yet to launch in india and also the cam is not good as per the reviews (it has a 5 MP) shooter.

So can you please help me out in choosing a decent phone with good performance, Good camera, Screen and Build quality for 15k to 17k range? It would be a big help

    Hi Rahul,
I really like your blog. Its very interesting and useful. I like the way u explain.
I want to know more info about “Auxus Nuclea N2”. Is it worth to invest on this mobile?
Do we have after sales service? My budget is Rs. 20,000 and I am looking for an awsome mbl other than Sony. I have been using Live with Walkman from Sony. Please advice.

    Thanks in Advance 🙂

    • January 26, 2014 at 11:58 pm

      Hi Satish.

Thanks for your nice words, it keeps me motivated.

iBerry Auxus Nuclea N2 is an really ammmmaaaazingggg phone!!! But AFTER SALES SERVICE… it is poor from iBerry. Keeping the long run in mind, the service may improve rapidly now as the brand is getting popularity and sales. Its worth to take the risk.

htc desire 500 or sony xperia c?

    • Paramdeep Singh
      January 24, 2014 at 10:30 am

You should go for Xperia C.It has got an bigger screen, better screen resoultion, slimmer, long batteryits got jellybean 4.2.2 And Htc Desire 500 got light weight, supports DLNA. SO MY CHOICE IS XPERIA C

    • January 26, 2014 at 10:37 pm

Both the phones are good. Sony Xperia C has bigger screen and better battery. And going by “bada hai to behtar hai” it makes a better choice.

    January 21, 2014 at 4:02 pm

    Hi Rahul,

First of all thank you so much for this useful blog. I just love it.

I have few questions pls bare with me.

    1) which factor is important? no.of cores or Ghz speed.

    2) Canvas Turbo or Xolo Q3000 or Iberry Nuclea N2?

    3) Indian brands are not giving the voice, noise db details. Are they safe like other International brands?

    • January 21, 2014 at 11:38 pm

      Hi Madhavan,

Thank you so much for your appreciation. Coming to your questions one by one:

      1) A CPU has no. of cores that means it can perform no of operations simultaneously at each core. The no. of cores and their efficiency collectively determine the processing speed of a CPU. So one should look for the overall performance and reviews of a CPU rather than going separately with the no. of cores and speed.

      2) iBerry Auxus Nuclea N2. Amazing Specs!

      3) Yes they are safe, the Indian brands have evolved a lot and they are proving themselves international and fit to their standards like Micromax is gaining popularity in many overseas markets.

currently i am using the xolo play, and i want to ask should i buy the nexus 4 or stick with xolo play

    • January 21, 2014 at 11:14 pm

      Hello Sachit,

Thanks for your nice comment, it gives great motivation 🙂 . If you want to buy then go for Nexus 5 otherwise, its better to stick with Xolo Play as there are not huge differences between Xolo Play & Nexus 4.

I’ve reviewed lot and found that Xperia SP has some display issue. Can you make it clear whether thr is any issue on display??

    • January 21, 2014 at 10:32 pm

      Hi Prabhu,

Thanks for sharing the link. I have read the thread in detail & concluding from it, I can say that its not really a hardware issue. Many users have got solution to it by making changes in their settings. If you have a doubt in mind go to a mobile store and try accessing the screen keeping it horizontal on the desk. I think that’s a software problem with some of the devices.

what if we have a problem of battery damage in xperia mobiles?can they be replaced with new ones?or the phone is to be thrown?

    • January 20, 2014 at 10:44 pm

      Hi Uma,

The non-removable batteries can be replaced if necessary but it will require you to take the phone to the customer care centre, you can’t change it yourself.

Hey rahul I was was planning to buy a smartphone with a budget of around 20000. And I found out a phone called sony xperia t. So my question is that -is this phone available in india and should I buy it.

    • January 20, 2014 at 10:36 pm

      Hello Tariq,

Sony Xperia T was released in September 2012 and its a long time since then. Now there is Sony Xperia SP which is more recent and has a better and faster processor. You should look for it. And yes you can buy it in India if not in retail stores, then it is available in Ebay.

      1) Samsung is the best and Sony is almost as good as Samsung.

      2) The best processor around 20,000 is in Sony Xperia Sp, the Dual-core 1.7 GHz Krait, Qualcomm MSM8960T Snapdragon Processor.

      3) Lenovo phones are really very good and they are best in certain price ranges but in some price range there are many better phones.

hiii sony xperia has one major issue which you can’t avoid i.e irremovable battery

    • January 15, 2014 at 11:16 pm

Hi Rahul, yup that you have to deal with these phones. But before coming to avoid the phones make sure to take reviews from the people who are using the phones. From my view the issue is acceptable.

Y wud Xperia b better than intex?….. As per the info uv given…intex aqua has gt better primary n secondary camera…32 gb internal memory..(Xperia with 8 gb) nd has a lower cost.? Even the ram is better than Xperia. Plz explain

    • January 13, 2014 at 12:38 am

Hello Puravi, the heart of any phone is its processor. Here Xperia SP has got a more powerful 1.7 GHz processor with “Snapdragon” chipset compared to Intex’s 1.5 GHz “Mediatek” processor. And it is very well known that Snapdragon processors are better. Coming to cameras, companies like Intex, Micromax often provide higher MP cameras but their cameras are not so upto the mark, & the cameras from the likes of Sony, Samsung might have a lower resolution but they are well there in the competition with 13 MP. No doubt, there is a huge difference in the front camera between the two phones but not just going by the specification, one must think how often do we use the front camera and just for the sake of it, aren’t we missing on what is the most important, the processor?

Now coming to the internal memory of the two phones, surely their is a difference, huge difference. But sd cards are so cheap these days that you might get a 16 GB card at 300-350 Rs.(but for it, you must know where to buy it in your city). And again a major factor is that the post sales service, the quality of brand, the reputation of the brand and its popularity. And here the clear winner is Sony.

While recommending phones to the readers, its not just the better specification which matters but, the overall value for money and a complete performance is the key.

Now I hope, I made it clear why spending 3,000 more on Sony Xperia SP still gives you a better return than Intex despite having lower configuration.

Great Explanation! Rahul…you are 100% correct and love your blog. Rahul…i am looking to buy a phone under 20,000 bucks, can you suggest one for me….i love to use large screens, can you recommend a gadget with over “5.0 inches” with a good configuration please.

        • January 14, 2014 at 3:05 pm

          Hello Paulabs,

Thank you very much for your nice comment 🙂 And, Xolo Q3000 is very good under 20,000 Rs. with 5.7 inches screen, good battery, camera and a fast performance.

            January 15, 2014 at 1:28 pm

Thanks, Rahul…i am currently using Xolo A700 the battery performance is worst and frequent disconnection while using 3G, i have to restart my mobile or toggle the Airplane mode everytime to connect 3G again. So, going again with Xolo is making me think twice sorry thrice :). Whats your opinion?

          • January 15, 2014 at 11:23 pm

If you are using the brand and facing these problems then you should strictly avoid going with Xolo again. In 20,000 Rs. if you can compromise a little over screen its best to go with Sony Xperia SP.
