1. Xiaomi Mi 5:

After all the wait Xiaomi has finally launched its new flagship Xiaomi Mi 5 and as expected from the company, it’s yet another master piece. Starting with the design, the phone looks very beautiful, it has a metallic frame and 3D glass on the rear which is curved towards the edges, which gives a good grip and feel. The phone looks great from all the angles and feels premium, one can notice the attention to details. It packs a 5.15 inches Full HD screen with 428 ppi pixel density which has amazing display quality, while the… Expand Review

Corning Gorilla Glass 4 covers both the front and rear glasses. If we talk about the performance, it is the first phone in India to come with Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon 820 processor, which is also currently one of the best processors in the world so, it goes without saying that you don’t need to worry about playing the heaviest of the games or doing heavy multitasking but, it also heats a little. It is paired with 3GB of RAM (Xiaomi Mi 5 also has a 4GB RAM variant but it is not launched in India) and Adreno 530 GPU. Moving on to another department where the Mi 5 excels, the camera, it comes with a 16 MP rear camera with Sony’s latest IMX298 sensor with PDAF, 4-axis OIS, f/2.0 aperture, dual-LED flash, Slow-mo videos @ 120 fps and 4K video recording, it also includes Sapphire glass cover for lens protection. On the front, it has a 4 MP camera with 2 micron pixel and f/2.0 aperture for selfie lovers. Beyond the specs, the picture quality of both the cameras is really very impressive, even the low-light photography on the Mi 5 is very good. The phone runs on Android v6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 7. The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with 32 GB internal storage (64 GB & 128 GB variants not launched in India) powered by UFS 2.0 which is faster than previous technologies but, it misses out on microSD card slot. It is dual sim phone with support for Indian 4G bands and VoLTE. It comes with fingerprint scanner integrated into the physical home button on the front, apart from locking the screen it also allows to lock apps and hide folders. It also comes with Type-C USB port, NFC and IR Blaster. The phone is backed by a 3,000 mAh battery with Quick charge 3.0 fast charging support. Despite a big battery and metal, glass body the phone weighs just 129 grams.

Overall, the Mi 5 is truly a great flagship phone, while the 4 GB RAM variant is even better, the 3 GB RAM variant isn’t a bad choice either and it still stands ahead of the competition as a complete package and is currently the best phone under 25000 Rs. in India.

2. ZTE Nubia Z11:

ZTE has launched its most powerful smartphone Nubia Z11 in India recently. The Nubia Z11 looks like a really promising device, let’s get started with it design. It comes in a really premium metal unibody design in black and gold colors, the back of the phone feels very good to touch and hold and on the front, it has got a 2.5D curved corning gorilla glass. However, the biggest highlight, rather say achievement in the design of the Nubia Z11 is the bezel less display which looks absolutely amazing and adds a lot to the aesthetics of the phone… Expand Review

It also helps in making the phone more compact by reducing the screen to body ratio. So, in the design department, the ZTE Nubia Z11 is absolutely good, it has got one of the best designs for the price and is an eye catcher the moment you pull it out from the pocket. Coming to the display, it has got a 5.5 inches Full HD screen which has awesome display quality and thanks to the bezel less display, the screen looks more beautiful. It runs on the 2.15 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with 6 GB RAM and delivers great performance like the OnePlus 3T. Games, multimedia, multitasking, everything is smooth here. When it comes to the optics, the ZTE Nubia Z11 packs the same sensor like the OnePlus 3T, Xiaomi Mi5 and the Zenfone 3 which is the Sony IMX 298 with f/2.0 aperture. It comes with OIS and clicks really good images with good depth, colors and saturation, the quality is good in both day light and low light conditions. It misses out on 4K video recording and offers video recording upto 2K resolution. The 8 MP front camera also has decent quality but it could have been a little better, still it’s not a big turn off, it does an acceptable job. The screen flash for the front camera is good. ZTE’s camera app is feature packed and includes lots of modes and features. The phone runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with no words on if and when the Nougat update is coming. The Nubia UI 4.0 runs on top, it takes full benefit of the bezel less display and offers lots of features like double click on the edge to go back, swipe up/down from the edge to switch or start apps, swipe repeatedly from the edge to free up RAM, swipe from both edges to adjust brightness and more. These features are cool and actually come handy specially, double tap on the edge to go back, it reduces your thumb’s movement while using the phone with one hand. The Nubia UI also offers another handy feature – swiping up from bottom of the screen split’s the screen into two, it is very useful for multitasking. It packs a good fingerprint scanner on the back, it can also be used for lots of other activities, it also packs IR blaster. The Nubia Z11 is backed by a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery, which gives a day’s battery backup for moderate to heavy usage. It supports Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology which is really very fast and one of the best. It is a dual sim phone with 4G and VoLTE support, it packs 64 GB of internal storage which is expandable upto 200 GB but has a hybrid slot.

Overall, the ZTE Nubia Z11 is a great complete smartphone with one of the best designs, great performance, excellent camera and all the required features. It offers a great value and user experience for its price and it’s one of the best mid-range phones. However, when it comes to the brand value, ZTE still falls behind its competitors like OnePlus, Asus and Huawei Honor which also offer excellent phones at the same price but, the Nubia Z11 still manages to take a lead from few of them based on its excellent offerings.

3. Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro:

Samsung is trying hard to regain its lost market and is launching lots of new phones to make sure it offers something for all types of users. It is specially pushing it hard in the mid range segment and has launched another mid range smartphone Galaxy C7 Pro in India recently. The C7 Pro comes with a premium metal unibody design which is just 7mm thick and feels sturdy. On top, it has a 2.5D curved glass which enhances the looks and comforts. In all, design wise Samsung has done a pretty good job with the phone. It sports a big 5.7 inches… Expand Review

Full HD Super AMOLED display which has excellent quality and good viewing angles. The Galaxy C7 Pro comes with Always On display which shows time and important notification icons while the screen is locked, without consuming much battery life. It runs on the 2.2 GHz octa core Snapdragon 626 processor coupled with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU. The performance is very good and handles everything smoothly, gaming is also good on the phone however, some very heavy games can encounter some lag at times. Thanks to the processor, it doesn’t heat up during gaming. Coming to the cameras, it packs a 16 MP rear camera with f/1.9 aperture, Full HD video recording and dual LED flash. The picture quality is very good in day light conditions however, a bit noisy in low light and night. The 16 MP front camera is a good selfie shooter. The camera app includes lots of filters and a full pro mode. However, if your top priority is camera or selfies, you can get phones with better camera quality at this price. The phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Samsung’s new UI running on top; it is good looking, well optimised, has some useful features and free of bloatware. The phone packs a very fast fingerprint scanner in the home button. It uses USB Type-C 2.0 for charging and data transfer. It is a dual sim phone with 4G and VoLTE support. It packs great 64 GB internal storage which is expandable up to 256 GB via microSD card but uses a hybrid slot. The Galaxy C7 Pro is backed by a non-removable Li-Ion 3300 mAh battery which delivers good battery backup and supports fast charging, it takes around 100 minutes for full charge. A great disappointment in the phone is, despite having NFC it doesn’t supports Samsung Pay which is a unique and revolutionary feature from Samsung.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro is a very good all round smartphone with excellent design, big screen with very good display, good performance and good battery life. Moreover, it has great brand value and trust of Samsung. However disappointingly, it doesn’t support Samsung Pay which can be a reason to buy the smartphone in itself. Still, it can be a good buying option.

good viewing angles. The Moto Z play runs on the 2 GHz Octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 3 GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU. The Snapdragon 625 is a mid budget processor and is not expected at this price where most of the competitors are offering a Snapdragon 8xx series processor. The performance of the Moto Z Play is good however, there will be no problem in day-to-day usage, browsing, multitasking, and even heavy gaming also. Coming to the software part, the Moto Z Play runs on the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with almost Stock Android UI with some useful added functionalities. The Moto Z Play sports a 16 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, Laser autofocus and Dual-LED flash and is a very good performer in both good and bad lighting conditions. It supports 4K video recording, however it lacks OIS. The 5 MP front camera comes with f/2.2 aperture and an LED flash as well, it also clicks good selfies. The phone packs a fingerprint scanner below the screen, it is fast and accurate however, the button only acts as a fingerprint scanner and doesn’t work as the home button. The highlight of the phone is the support for the Moto Mods, to explain in details, Moto Mods are the swappable back covers which attach to the phone via strong magnets and can be interchanged very easily. There are 5 Moto Mods currently, the Insta-Share Projector Mod which converts your phone into a mini projector and can prove very handy for small presentations and meetings, the JBL SoundBoost Mod which adds loud rich quality stereo sound to your phone, it also comes with kickstand so pull it and there is no need to carry any other portable speaker for music, the Hasselblad True Zoom Mod, which converts your phone into a true digital camera with 10x optical zoom, xenon flash, physical shutter and zoom buttons and grip like standard cameras, the Incipio offGRID™ Power Pack Mod which is a powerbank mod and adds extra battery life to the phone and lastly, the Moto Style Shells which give different styles and looks to the phone. The Moto Mods are obviously great additions but they are very costly. The phone comes with Water repellent nano coating and includes USB Type-C port. A great thing about the phone is the big 3510 mAh battery which supports Turbo Charging and provides a very good battery backup. Despite the big battery the phone has just 6.99 mm thickness.

Overall, the Moto Z Play is a great beautiful smartphone, it is not the most powerful smartphone at its price but everything is very good and balanced in the phone and if you plan to purchase the Moto Mods also, it is the most different phone and will provide an unmatched experience. Even without the Moto Mods, the Moto Z Play, if you are not a very heavy gamer can be a great choice under 25000 Rs.

5. Vivo V5 Plus:

Vivo has launched its new flagship phone Vivo V5 Plus in India which makes a massive claim of being the Selfie king with its dual front cameras. It packs a 20 MP primary selfie camera and an 8 MP secondary selfie camera for capturing the additional depth-of-field, the selfies come out just amazing with very good details and bokeh effect. It is one of the best selfie phones in the world and absolute best at its price. The 16 MP rear camera is good as well. Talking about the design, the Vivo V5 Plus looks like an iPhone 7 clone… Expand Review

from the back, which is not a bad thing! It looks beautiful and has very good build quality. The 5.5 inches Full HD display is crisp and clear, it has good colors and good overall quality. When it comes to performance, it packs the 2.0 GHz Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Processor coupled with 4 GB RAM. The phone was launched at Rs. 27,980 and still runs on the Snapdragon 625 which is a disappointment. However, the performance is good, it handles day-to-day usage, multitasking and gaming very well but heavy gamers must not settle with this as you get the likes of Snapdragon 821 in the OnePlus 3T. It runs on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow based Funtouch OS 3.0 and Vivo’s love for the iPhones is evident here also. The Funtouch OS is heavily customised and is as close to iOS as possible, even the icons look like straight taken out from the iOS. The fingerprint scanner below the homescreen is very fast. The music experience on the phone through Vivo’s Hi-Fi chip is very good. It is a dual sim phone with 4G and VoLTE support and packs 64 GB of internal storage and sadly doesn’t include a microSD slot. The phone is backed by a non-removable 3160 mAh battery which provides good battery backup and supports fast charging. Disappointingly, the phone doesn’t come with Type-C USB port.

Overall, the Vivo V5 Plus has an amazing selfie camera and selfie lovers won’t find anything better, even the rear camera and design is good. However, it demands a premium price and better value for money phone are available at loiwer prices. So it is simple, if you do not care about anything else apart from Selfies, go with the Vivo V5 Plus otherwise give it a miss.
