1. OnePlus 5T (6 GB):

OnePlus had launched the OnePlus 5 back in June this year, it is a great phone and became very popular but then, in just 6 months the company decided to make great greater! It has launched the new OnePlus 5T which is an upgrade over the OnePlus 5 and comes with a tall 6.01 inches screen with 18:9 aspect ratio which is the biggest change from its predecessor and is also one of the biggest highlights of the OnePlus 5T. Due to the new bezel less screen, the OnePlus 5T packs the bigger 6.01 inches screen in almost the same size of the OnePlus 5… Expand Review

which came with 5.5 inches screen. With the narrow bezels, the phone looks very beautiful and attractive from the front however, the fingerprint scanner is moved to the back of the phone but rest of the build and design of the OnePlus 5T remains identical to the OnePlus 5T, which means the phone comes in a slim premium metal unibody design. The Full HD+ (1080 x 2160 pixels) Optic AMOLED display comes with 401 ppi pixel density and has excellent quality with vibrant colors. The screen comes with a 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Another area which has seen some changes is the camera department of the OnePlus 5T. It again packs a dual rear camera on the back with a 16 MP primary Sony IMX 398 sensor with f/1.7 aperture, similar to the OnePlus 5 while the 20 MP secondary camera is a Sony IMX 376K sensor again with f/1.7 aperture, instead of a 20 MP telephoto lens used on the OnePlus 5. OnePlus has made this change to improve the low-light photography, and it successfully achieves that. The OnePlus 5T clicks excellent images in day light with natural colors and it also clicks excellent sharp and low-noise shots in the night as well. However, the use of a telephoto lens on the OnePlus 5 allowed for 2x optical zoom which proved quite handy but, it is now replaced with a better low light photography on the OnePlus 5T, which makes sense. For the portrait shots, the edge detection and blurring work very well. It can record 4K videos at 30fps and comes with EIS. The 16 MP Sony IMX 371 sensor on the front remains the same, it comes with f/2.0 aperture and clicks excellent selfies. The front camera also reminds of the new innovative feature, which will soon become the trend for smartphones – Facial Unlock. The OnePlus 5T uses software for facial recognition and once you have set up your profile, you can unlock your phone by just pressing the power button and looking towards the phone, it is insanely fast and unlocks the phone in literally no time. The performance department on the OnePlus 5T remains same like its predecessor. It runs on one of the most powerful mobile processors in the world, flagship from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 835 clocked at 2.45 GHz and paired with Adreno 540 GPU. The OnePlus 5T also comes in two variants, one with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage and other with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. The performance, again is excellent, it handle everything very smoothly, be it lots and lots of apps or heaviest of the games. The OnePlus 5T runs on the Android 7.1.1 Nougat based Oxygen OS and will soon get the Android Oreo update. The Oxygen OS is very close to stock Android, it just adds some features and UX enhancements. It comes with USB Type-C for charging and data transfer, and also comes with the latest Bluetooth v5.0 and NFC. It supports two 4G sim cards and VoLTE. The OnePlus 5T packs in a non-removable Li-Po 3,300 mAh battery and comes with a 20W (5V, 4A) charger with OnePlus’s Dash Charge technology and charges the phone pretty quickly and delivers good battery backup. It has good audio quality and if you love reading a lot, it also comes with a Reading Mode and makes your phone like an e-book reader.

Should you buy?
Overall, the OnePlus 5T is the modernised version of the OnePlus 5, which was a great phone. The addition of a bezel less design with 18:9 aspect ratio, facial unlock really make it greater and more of a complete flagship smartphone, with features you look after for. You get great design, performance, cameras and all the trendy flagship features at a price which is just unbeatable. It is truly a great smartphone without a big dent in your pockets.

2. Samsung Galaxy A8+:

In the very start of the year, Samsung has launched its latest upper mid-range smartphone, Galaxy A8+, a phone which sits a step below its flagship Galaxy S8/S8+ and Galaxy Note 8 smartphones but packs in some of the best features from the flagship smartphones. The Galaxy A8+ comes with the Infinity Display in a narrow-bezel design and looks stunning with its premium metal glass body, which comes in different color options and feels great in hands with rounded corners. It sports a big 6.0 inches screen… Expand Review

which comes with Super AMOLED display having FHD+ (1080 x 2220 pixels) resolutions, 18.5:9 aspect ratio and 411 ppi density. As always, Samsung’s AMOLED display is awesome, the colors are natural and punchy and one can immediately start loving the phone looking at its display. It also comes with Always on Display, which shows notification icons, date and time when the phone is locked. The Samsung Galaxy A8+ is powered by a 2.2 GHz Octa Core Exynos 7885 processor coupled with 6 GB RAM and Mali-G71 GPU. The performance is very good and it handles everything smoothly, be it heavy multitasking or gaming. The strengthier part of the phone is its camera department, where it has got a dual front camera setup for the first time in a Samsung smartphone. It includes a 16 MP, f/1.9 aperture primary sensor with an 8 MP, f/1.9 aperture wide-angle sensor. The selfies come out really excellent, with great colors and lots of details. You also get lots of software enhancements which include stickers using face-recognition technology, Food mode, Beauty effect, filters, bokeh effects and live focus (lets you adjust the background blur before and after the image is shot). On the rear, there is a 16 MP camera with F1.7 lens, 1.12㎛ pixels, and big 1/2.8” sensor which is not only an excellent shooter in daylight conditions but also clicks very good low light images. The phone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat based Samsung Experience 8.5 and should soon get Android Oreo. On the software part, Samsung is doing a very hard work, touching down small aspects which improve the user experience. You get Bixby, smart search for gallery, Samsung Pay, Secure Folder (separate space for sensitive and personal data) and a lot more. The Samsung Galaxy A8+ also comes with Face Recognition unlock which works well, it also gets a fast and accurate fingerprint scanner on the back below the camera. It also comes with IP68 certification which makes it Water & Dust resistant, which is a great thing. It comes with dedicated slots for the two sim and microSD card. It gets 64 GB of onboard storage, which is expandable up to 256 GB. It has got USB Type-C for data syncing and charging. It packs in a 3500 mAh Lithium-ion battery with fast charging support and has decent battery backup. Due to a big battery, the phone weighs on the higher side at 191 grams.

Should you buy?
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy A8+ is Samsung’s first serious mid-range smartphone which offers flagship-level features and experience. Be it design, cameras, display, features or software, it excels in almost all the departments. The only thing it doesn’t offer is a flagship processor like Snapdragon 835 otherwise it is a great smartphone with the best of Samsung’s Galaxy S8/S8+ and Note 8. So, a great smartphone with all the modern trending features and a great brand value, the Galaxy A8+ is a pick with closed eyes.

Huawei has launched its latest flagship in the new year, the Honor View 10, which packs some amazing specifications. The phone takes things forward from last year’s Honor 8 Pro and is launched as a direct competition to the OnePlus 5T.  The Honor View 10 comes in a slim narrow-bezel design which looks beautiful and premium, it has got a matte finish metallic back which feels good in hands. One good thing Huawei has managed with the design, is the fingerprint scanner on the front despite the tall display and slim bezels, a feat which other manufacturers like Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus and even Apple failed to achieve… Expand Review

The overall build is pretty solid and good looking. The Honor View 10 sports a big 5.99 inches FHD+ display with 1080 x 2160 pixels resolution, 18:9 aspect ratio and 403 ppi density. The picture quality is excellent with natural colors and good exposure, low light performance is also very good. On the front, there is a 13 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture lens, it again is a very good selfie shooter. The phone produces good bokeh effects for both the front and rear cameras, the camera app also comes with lots of modes, filters, and features. 4. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2:

Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 2 is its second generation bezel-less flagship smartphone. It comes in a bezel-less design with just a slim bezel in the bottom which also houses the front camera, it is a weird position although. The phone comes in a ceramic back, which looks very beautiful and feels smooth and premium in hands, at the same time, it is slippery and fingerprint magnet as well. But the overall build and design of the phone is pretty solid and beautiful. It packs in a big 5.99 inches screen with FHD+ display having 1080 x 2160 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio… Expand Review

The display quality is good with nice viewing angles. The Mi Mix 2 is powered by Qualcomm’s 2017 flagship Octa Core Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at 2.45 GHz. It comes paired with 6 GB RAM and Adreno 540 GPU. The performance of the phone is excellent and it handles everything thrown at it with ease and at the same time being battery efficient. It runs on Android 7.1 Nougat based MIUI 9, which is a well optimised Android skin with lots of improved features. Xiaomi’s MIUI is the best customised Android ROM according to us, it is fast, beautiful, customisable and feature rich. And with the MIUI 9, the UI has become even more beautiful, and one thing which many would love, it comes with a huge collection of wallpapers and every time you pick up your phone, you get amused with a new beautiful wallpaper on the lock screen (the lock screen wallpapers can be set to change in every 15 mins, 1 hour, 3 hours or a day). When it comes to the cameras, despite the trend of dual cameras, the Mi Mix 2 features a single 12 MP camera on the rear with f/2.0 aperture lens and OIS, the picture quality is very good in day light conditions. The unusually placed camera on the front is of 5 MP, it is a decent one but stands nowhere close to its competitors which offer a bigger and better selfie shooter at the same or less price. It is dual sim phone with 128 GB of internal storage, which is great but it doesn’t come with a microSD card slot. The Mi Mix 2 is backed by a non-removable 3400 mAh Lithium-Ion battery which supports fast charging with a 9V/2A charger, it delivers good battery backup. The fingerprint scanner placed on the back is easily accessible and is very fast. It comes with USB Type-C for data syncing and charging.

Should you buy?
Overall, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is a very beautiful smartphone which catches your attention even in a small glimpse with its bezel-less ceramic body. It is also packed with equally powerful hardware and delivers top of the line performance, and also comes with beautiful, well-optimised software and lots of features. However, it does not offer dual cameras or a big selfie shooter like the competition and takes a back seat when it comes to the camera department. So, if cameras are not your top priority it can be a great buy.

way for a bigger 5.7 inches screen in a small body size. The phone looks good, although not as beautiful as the Samsung Galaxy S8 but is good in itself compared to LG’s earlier flagships. The 5.7 inches screen comes with a QHD+ (2880 x 1440 pixels) display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 564 ppi pixel density, the 2K display has absolutely excellent quality and very few phones come with the 2K display. Also, the rounded corners on the display look modern and cool. The LG G6 runs on Qualcomm’s last year’s 2.35 GHz Quad Core Snapdragon 821 processor coupled with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. The performance is amazing and it can handle everything, be it heaviest of the games or multitasking. The biggest highlight of the LG G6 is its dual camera setup on the rear, which comes with two 13 MP cameras, where the primary sensor has a 71 degrees standard-angle lens with 1/3.06″ image sensor, f/1.8 aperture while the secondary sensor has a 125 degrees wide-angle lens with 1/3.06″ image sensor and f/2.4 aperture. It captures excellent images with its primary camera while the secondary camera provides you an exclusive feature with its wide-angle lens to capture much more area in the frame from the same position, one just gets amazed to see the wide-angle shots on the LG G6. It comes with OIS, EIS, PDAF, PRO mode, Square Camera and lots of filters. On the front, there is a 5 MP selfie shooter which clicks good selfies but most of the phones in this price range come with a bigger and better selfie camera. The LG G6 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat based LG UX 6.0, which has improved over itself but still need to become modern and more visually appealing. Feature wise, the LG UX packs a lots of options and customisations, it is also well optimised so it runs efficiently without adding much load on the processor or on the battery life. The fingerprint scanner is placed on the back and is very fast and accurate, it also doubles up as the power button. It comes with NFC, USB Type-C and Hi-Fi Audio recorder if you want to record professional audio on the phone. It is a dual sim phone with 4G support and comes with a hybrid slot. It packs in 64 GB of onboard storage which is expandable up to 2 TB via microSD card. The LG G6 is backed by a non-removable Li-Po 3300 mAh battery, which delivers good battery backup for a day’s usage. It also comes with Quick Charge 3.0, which charges the phone from 0 to 50% in 30 minutes.

Should you buy?
Overall, the LG G6 is a true flagship smartphone. It packs well balanced hardware with excellent cameras, good looking sturdy design and a premium bezel less display.
