The search-engine giant, Google has launched the new Chromecast 2 and Chromecast Audio devices in India, today. Both the devices are priced at Rs. 3,399 and are available from major online and offline stores across the country.
The second generation of Chromecast features better hardware and supports all latest WiFi technologies. The company has improved its caching technologies, as it now has 236 MB of flash storage, rather than the 2 GB in its old variant. It also has a new Fast Play feature, that allows Chromecast device to quickly start a video or audio streaming on simply pressing the Cast button.
For those who are unaware of Chromecast, it basically lets you cast content from mobile apps and PCs, Macs, Chromebooks or laptops from Chrome browser to your TV at 1080p resolution.
The Chromecast Audio has similar functionality, except it casts only audio content from Android, iOS devices, Chromebook, Mac and Windows laptops to the speakers. It has Aux-in cable to connect it to speaker, and users just need to press cast button to play the audio. It has Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5Ghz) support and microUSB port for charging. This way, you can make any of your existing home audio systems WiFi enabled and play songs on the go from your smartphones.
The Google Chromecast 2 comes with free HOOQ subscription, and the Chromecast Audio comes free subscription to Saavn, for 6 months each.
