Pre-bookings for the much awaited JioPhone kicked off on 24th August 5 PM and as it was expected, there was a hoard of pre-bookings for the feature phone from Reliance Jio. There were millions of pre-registrations for the feature phone within a short period of time and as a result Jio’s website Jio.com was temporarily down for a while. As of now, the pre-bookings have been suspended altogether, apparently because the site was unable to process all the multiple requests due to the insane popularity.
For time being, the ones looking to pre-book the JioPhone can only register their interest and the rest will be most probably processed when the pre-bookings starts again. The front page on Jio’s site reads, “We will inform you when the pre-booking resumes,” indicating that the option for pre-booking has been removed. There is no clue about when the pre-booking will resume.
Manwhile, for those who have already pre-booked the JioPhone, there is a option of checking the status of their device. The status can be checked by dialing the number, ‘18008908900’. Users will need to share their registered mobile number to know the status of JioPhone. This can be done via MyJio app as well by opening the app and clicking on ‘My Vouchers’ tab.
As we know the JioPhone comes with tons of features, which is main reason why it is becoming so popular amongst the buyers. The feature phone sports a 2.4 inch QVGA display and is powered by the 1.2 GHz Spreadtrum SPRD 9820A/QC8905 dual-core processor with Mali-400 GPU and 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.
For basic imaging the JioPhone holds a 2-megapixel rear camera along with a VGA camera on the front. It packs a 2,000 mAh battery that is claimed to deliver up to 12 hours of talk time and up to 15 days of standby time. Apart from being a 4G feature phone the JioPhone also supports, Bluetooth v4.1, Wi-Fi, NFC, FM Radio, GPS, and USB 2.0. The device has also got NFC to make online UPI payments without the need of a physical credit or debit card.
The JioPhone comes with voice commands based Jio-assistant which supports 22 other regional languages along with English and Hindi. This functionality in the feature phone will react to user’s voice command and will work accordingly like any other voice assistants available in high-end smartphones. Added to all this, the phone has got a revolutionary screen mirroring technology called the ‘JioPhone TV Cable’ with which, you can watch various content from your phone on your TV screen.
