Xiaomi officially confirms design of Redmi 5, promo video also leaked ahead of launch on 7th December

We all know Xiaomi’s Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are just round the corner and they have already created waves in the smartphone market even before the launch, with a series of leaked videos. The videos, since then have spread over to various news portals, and users are going gaga all over. Not only this, but the company’s spokesperson Donovan Sung has also shared few images of the upcoming phones on twitter. The leaked videos and the shared images give the consumers a taste of what could Xiaomi’s much awaited Redmi 5 might look like. The Redmi 5, along with the Redmi 5 Plus is scheduled to be launched on 7th of December.

The Redmi 5 is expected to come in a pretty beautiful and sturdy body and if the leaked photos are to be believed, it will be available in three different color variants Black, Pink and Blue. If sources are to be believed, the new Redmi 5 will feature a big 5.7 inches HD+ (720 x 1440 pixels) display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The taller display will allow the phone to have a very narrow bezel design, which means the fingerprint scanner will be shifted to the back. The leaked video, which was released on various web portals, though it was in Mandarin, was expressive enough to know that the phone is going to be a star among smartphones, let’s take a look:

If the reports are to be believed, the Redmi 5 will run on the new 14 nm Snapdragon 450 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz. It is expected to come in three variants like the Redmi 4 – 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage and finally the 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage variant. Talking about the camera, the Redmi 5 will feature a 12 MP rear and a 5 MP front camera. It is expected to run on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The phone, compared to its predecessor, is reported to feature a smaller 3200 mAh battery.

Apart from that, the Chinese version of the phone will feature a hybrid slot for sim and microSD cards. It will have the dimensions of 151.8 x 72.8x 7.7 mm and will weigh 157 grams.

Coming to the premium one among the upcoming duo, the Redmi 5 Plus will carry a similar design and most of the features like the Redmi 5 and is expected to be available in Black and Gold colors and it will also have a larger screen size of 5.9 inches. As far as the performance part is concerned, the Redmi 5+ is expected to come with a Snapdragon 6xx series processor. It may contain within itself a 4000 mAh battery.

With the launch date set to be 7th of December, 2017, Xiaomi has been keeping its fans on their toes, however the leaks aren’t stopping and who knows what else we get to know before the phones are officially unveiled.
