Xiaomi is all set for the launch of another smartphone in India on May 16th. Although the exact details of the smartphone are unknown but it is speculated to be the Redmi 4 considering it is next in the line up after the Redmi 4A and Redmi Note 4. Amazon India has apparently started teasing the launch of this upcoming smartphone and also states that it is going to be Amazon exclusive.
Along with the launch of Redmi 4, Xiaomi could also bring in the Redmi 4 Prime. Both the smartphones were launched in China in November last year. Xiaomi is again looking to hit the budget segment with its Redmi 4 which could be priced closed to the Redmi 4A smartphone that is currently ruling the budget segment in the country. The Redmi 4 back in China was priced at 699 Yuan (roughly Rs, 6,999).
Looking at the specifications, the Redmi 4 sports a 5 inch HD display and has got a Snapdragon 420 processor under the hood. The device comes with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage which is expandable via microSD card. The smartphone holds a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP selfie shooter same as that of Redmi 4A but has slightly bigger battery of 4,100 mAh.
Xiaomi India VP and Managing Director, Manu Kumar Jain, commented about the launch through a tweet which reads, “Announcing the launch of a new Redmi phone! This will be the 2nd BIG announcement of the month. Coming soon. Stay tuned #PowerInYourHand.”
The device is arriving at a time where there is extreme demand for Xiaomi’s budget smartphones especially the Redmi 4A which is scarcely available at present. It will be interesting to see if the Indian buyers will go for Redmi 4 with the same enthusiasm as that of ‘4A’.
