WhatsApp Beta for Android allows streaming of videos while downloading

Facebook-owned WhatsApp is apparently testing a new video streaming feature on beta version of Android. The new feature will allow users to view shared videos as they are being downloaded. Consequently, users won’t have to wait now for the entire video to be downloaded in order to watch it.

At present, to watch any shared video on WhatsApp, you have to either download the entire video or wait until the video is downloaded automatically (depending on your auto-download settings).

With this latest update, users will see a play overlay icon on the video thumbnail instead of the usual download icon. Currently, this video streaming feature is only available for the beta version of Android but it could soon roll out for everyone as well.

WhatsApp recently rolled out the much-awaited video-calling feature globally on all platforms like iOS, Android and Windows.
