Sony unveiled two new smartphones – Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact at IFA earlier this month. The Xperia XZ will be available in the U.S from October 2nd at a price of $ 700 (approx. Rs. 46,738). While, the smartphone is also available now for pre-registrations in India on Sony’s official website and will be launched here soon. However, there is no word on availability of Xperia X Compact in India as of now.
As far as specifications are concerned, the Xperia XZ sports a 5.2-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Triluminos display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with Adreno 530 GPU. The processor is paired with 3 GB of RAM.
On the photography front, the Xperia XZ houses a 23-megapixel rear camera with Exmos RS sensor, 1/2.3″ sensor, f/2.0 lens, Predictive Hybrid AF, 5-axis stabilization, and 4K video recording. It also has a 13-megapixel front-facing camera with 1/3” Exmor RS sensor and 1080p video recording. It comes in two inbuilt storage variants – 32 GB and 64 GB which can be further expanded up to 256 GB via MicroSD card slot.
The device runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow which is expected to get Android 7.0 Nougat update soon. It is IP68 certified making it dust proof and water-resistant over 1.5 meter and 30 minutes. It is backed by a 2900 mAh battery with Qnovo’s Adaptive Charging technology and Quick Charge 3.0 support. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the right edge of the device.
Connectivity options on the smartphone include 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4GHz / 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/ GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C. It measures 146 x 72 x 8.1 mm and weighs 161 grams.
The Sony Xperia XZ will be offered in Forest Blue, Mineral Black and Platinum colour variants. The official launch date and exact pricing for India will be known soon. Stay tuned for more updates!
